  GLOSSARY FAQs

G-01 - What is an Art Print ?
A Art Print is a graphic image that has been duplicated one or more times. There are various techniques used to create a print, such as serigraphy (or silk screening), lithography, etching, and offset printing. Prints, especially limited editions, are considered fine art and can be highly valued..

G-02 - What is the difference between a wall poster, a fine art poster, and a fine Art Print on canvas ?
Generally the difference is in the level of quality. Wall posters are typically printed in large volume on less expensive paper, fine-art posters are printed on high-quality paper, and fine-art prints are printed with careful attention to true color reproduction on high-quality paper.

G-03 - What is a Reproduction ?

G-04 -What is a "Giclee" ?
Giclée (pronounced "zhee-clay") is a French word meaning "a spraying of ink.” With the advent of giclée, the art of reproducing fine art has become even more precise. Giclées have the highest apparent resolution available today - as high as 1,800 dots per inch. In addition, since no screens are used, the prints have a higher apparent resolution than lithographs and a color range that exceeds that of serigraphy. Displaying a full color spectrum, giclée prints capture every nuance of an original and have gained wide acceptance from artists and galleries throughout the world. The patented printing technology utilizes microscopically fine droplets of ink to form the image. A print can consist of nearly 20 billion ink droplets. The microscopic droplets of ink vary in sizes (approximately the size of a red blood cell) and density. This unique patented feature produces a near continuous tone image, smoother gradation between tones, and a more finely differentiated color palette.

G-05 - What is a Canvas ?
This canvas is ideally suited for fine art prints and can be easily stretched over frames without cracking or tearing. This 100% cotton, seedless, bright white, water-resistant, canvas produces unrivaled color density and superb image detail. Canvas is also acid free and has a completely neutral pH. This feature guarantees a significant increase in the longevity/archivability of the substrate.

G-06 - What is a Numbered Print ?
Numbering refers to labeling on a print that specifies its place in the order of its production when it is one of a limited edition.

G-07 - What does " S/N " mean ?
S/N is a symbol used to indicate that a limited edition print has been signed and numbered by the artist himself/herself.

G-08 - What is an Edition ?
An edition is a set of identical prints, sometimes numbered and signed, often printed under the supervision of the artist. Two numbers are often written at the lower edge of a print - the first indicating the print’s place in the order of all prints in the edition, the second number indicating the total number of prints in the edition.

G-09 - What is a Limited Edition ?
A limited edition is a series of identical prints, which are limited to a one-time printing of a certain number of pieces. The artist determines the size of the edition, and usually signs and numbers each individual piece.

G-11 - What is an Autoïd ?
Litterally means : « in shape of myself », in my image. They are symbolical representations of my inner psyche and the order of the world. Both of these being similar, since “what is above is below as well”. They call out to our subconscious psychic structures. Each of them is the synthesis of a global perception of the forces, strengths and various expressions of life. Colors and shapes combine in symbols, shadows, lights in history and carve in the material in man’s reach a general and symbolic vision of what is above and what is below…

G-12 - What is Projections ?
The collection « Projections » is an attempt of symbolical representation of the order of the world, in particular on the level of the extremes; the infinitely small world and the infinitely large one. These projections are imaginary photographs of atomic movements composed of hundreds of thousands, even perhaps a few million, stars. These are works of art of a very large smoothness of realization, with a plethora of details, like the subatomic world and interstellar world. The dark, the light, the vacuum, the full one, the nothing, the whole. What is more symbolic than a star in the black sky? Immense sun in the interstellar vacuum or floating atom in the quantum vacuum? Death and life under their most primary, original representations: the dark and the starlight…

G-13 - What is a Yantra ?
Of Indian origin, Yantra symbolizes the balance between forces of construction and those of destruction at the origin of all things.
