CONCEPT
The collection « Projections » is an attempt of symbolical representation of the order of the world, in particular on the level of the extremes3; the infinitely small world and the infinitely large one. These projections are imaginary photographs of atomic movements composed of hundreds of thousands, even perhaps a few million, stars. These are works of art of a very large smoothness of realization, with a plethora of details, like the subatomic world and interstellar world. The dark, the light, the vacuum, the full one, the nothing, the whole. What is more symbolic than a star in the black sky? Immense sun in the interstellar vacuum or floating atom in the quantum vacuum? Death and life under their most primary, original representations: the dark and the starlight…
Square visual privileging neither time nor space. The dark background represents the universe of what is only suggested, the absence of life, of creation. In opposition to that, the light, represented by the star, symbolizes life. The square format symbolizes matter, the finished product, the concrete, the material world. Each thing has a starting point of creation, the luminous unique and original "one" … Our universe complicates itself with time, has been spreading in space since the big-bang, from its center, its origin…. Just like these pieces of work. In this picture the stars are at the same time the component (smallest construction unit of the motifs) and the result of the component (creating larger stars themselves). Very strong representation of the concept of the fractal composition of the universe: "What is above is below" as well as the concept of a "holographic" universe, a universe in which each part contains all parts. The stars also symbolize the "atomic" aspect of our physical reality. Independently from each other they are simply "spots of light", but taken together they unite, form "the object". which tells them apart from one another. |
