CONCEPT
" By way of a monumental installation,
Jean-Marie Minazio offers an intervention on the "Tête
au carré " corresponding to Nice's central library. In the continuation of Sosno's spirit, the artist offers to
stay true to the following postulate : "Hiding in order to see more accurately".
The idea is to avoid denaturing Sosno's work while offering
a rediscovery and a new dimension to this inhabited sculpture. Jean-Marie Minazio intends to pursue the artistic questionings
of his renowned predecessor by dressing, in an ephemeral and
monumental way, this head, in a coat of clouds.
A symbolism perfectly adapted to the urban environment, permitting
the artist to propose an oeuvre which arouses dreams, poetry
and the observer's necessity to participate actively in this
artistic proposition. |
By doing so, the artist adds to Sosno's reflection on obliteration:
his goal being attracting attention on what can be seen, by
what is hidden.
Via this allegoric approach, the artist intends to reconcile
opposites. In the same spirit as the architect Yves Bayard,
what is empty is opposed to what is full, but it completes it
at the same time. The clouds symbolise emptiness, the ethereal
and the ephemeral. These clouds are therefore in opposition
to the full sculpture, alive and material. The white and blue
colours differentiate themselves form the darker ones related
to sculpting materials.
For the artist, the idea is to allow taking conscience of the
existing links between matter ( sculpture, in the material sense)
and what is ethereal ( the air, the clouds
), what lies
above and what lies below. The choice of a cloud representation
allows us to make these links and permits the artist to pursue
his reflection on opposites, essential to the creation process
of a work of art. Jean-Marie Minazio wishes to make architecture
evolve towards a more poetic dimension, to offer a second chance
to buildings, without altering their primary utility.
This installation also allows the continuation of the symbolism
linked with the representation of a head. Allowing a reflection
on thoughts, the rising of the spirit and knowledge to coexist
with a library building.
A library is a place of lire, thought and culture. This contemporary
work of art harmonises with the idea that art and culture allow
this elevation, that each one of us can grasp reality in a different
way, question it...just like Sosno's sculpture.
From now on, the public eye will have the possibility to see
the "Tête au carré" differently. Inciting
the public to rediscover Sosno's work and consider that the
work of an artist can open un to multiple possibilities without
denaturating the original work.
The citizens of Nice are thus able to look at an existing oeuvre
and pursue on their own the artistic intentions of the artist
: opening other windows on the world and offering the opportunity
to see what is "beyond".
